INFINITI recently announced the recall of up to 1.1 million INFINITI models between model years 2001 and 2010. The recall is due to a defect detected in the Takata-brand airbag in the driver’s seat.

According to INFINITI, the Takata airbag’s inflator could be subject to increased internal pressure which may cause the casing to rupture upon deployment. This could cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag cushion material possibly harming vehicle occupants.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that high heat, environmental moisture, and the airbag’s age are associated with this defect.
